The regional network for Green Public Procurement set up in Catalonia is promoted by the XARXA de Ciutats I Polbles cap a la Sostenibilitat. The network is created in the framework of the European project GPPinfoNET The Green Public Procurement Information Network.
The objective of the Catalan GPPinfoNET is to develop the Green Public Procurement in the territory by creating favourable conditions for the adoption of green purchasing in public administrations. The shift towards sustainable production and consumption models is an objective well defined both by the Plan of Implementation of the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development and, at European level, by the Sustainable Consumption and Production and Sustainable Industrial Policy Action Plan (COM(2008)397).
On 23 February 2010 the start up meeting of the regional network took place in Barcelona. The meeting was the occasion to present the GPPinfoNET project and to exchange knowledge on the experiences realized in the field of green public procurement in Catalonia.
By participating in the regional network, public institutions have the opportunity to encourage green innovation across the territory. PAs are called to promote the diffusion of a new culture and to stimulate the changing of production and consumption’s models toward sustainable ones.
